Hello Boochers!

Let me begin by apologising for not being able to send out a newsletter last week!

But I am back this week to talk about the state of your gut and its effects on the skin.

As someone who has once struggled with bad acne, I am particularly excited to write about this and bring hope to anyone struggling with skin issues. A healed gut CAN improve your skin health.

At birth, everyone’s gut microbiome is the result of genetics. Thereafter, one’s microbiome is influenced by external factors such as diet (the food you eat), antibiotics, lifestyle, environmental changes, etc.

In the last couple of decades, numerous studies have shown connections between your gut health, your immune system, your mood, mental health, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders, AND skin conditions. YES, even your skin!

When the gut flora gets compromised, it is possible to develop what we call “leaky gut” syndrome. This happens when the intestines become permeable, allowing partially digested food to escape into the bloodstream.

This then causes inflammation, which can definitely show on the skin.

Remember: Inflammation is the root of many (if not all) diseases.

Inflammation is common if you have a compromised gut and usually presents symptoms including bloating/cramping, diarrhea, irregular/painful periods, mood swings, and skin issues.

Symptoms of gut health issues can vary, and the skin can be used to measure what’s going on inside the gut. Your diet is the most important factor in getting a clear complexion because the gut microbiome, the bacteria living in your digestive system and intestines, influences your overall health, ultimately improving your complexion and giving you healthy skin.

Common skin concerns that may arise with an unhealthy/leaky gut include (but are not limited to) eczema, dry skin, acne, sagging of the skin, and an overall breakdown of collagen.

While there really is no harm in investing in quality skin care products, it’s even more advisable to invest in your digestive health.

Healing/nurturing your gut will allow you to simplify your skincare routine, help you achieve a smooth, balanced and glowing complexion – and make you feel better and even more confident in yourself.

Remember:

  1. Eat foods rich in probiotics and prebiotics such as kombucha, milk kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi. (If you’d like to purchase our range of raw, rich , probiotic beverages, please reach out to us on +233 55 291 5390)

  2. Stop bad bacteria in their tracks by limiting refined foods and added sugar(s). Teach yourself to stop expecting sweetness from every food

  3. Keep hydrated

  4. Avoid drinking with your meals, as that dilutes digestive enzymes

A diet rich in Whole Foods, and less processed ingredients will always add to your health.

That’s all for now, Boochers!

Till next week! Stay Healthy, Stay Happy!
